Winning Entries
- The Germain G. Glidden Best in Show Award: “Mission City Brawlin’ Betties,” a painting of a roller derby, was chosen for the $2,500 prize. The artist is Mary Carol Kenney, an Indianapolis native now living and painting in Santa Barbara, Calif.
- “Student Athlete,” by Jamie Henderson, Edmond, Oklahoma, was the winner of the NCAA Honoring Academic and Athletic Excellence in Sculpture to honor College Athletics and Academic Excellence. A $2,500 prize was awarded along with this honor.
- “Considering Coach’s Advice”, (softball) by Patsy Lindamood, was awarded the NCAA Honoring Academic and Athletic Excellence in Painting Award. A $2,500 prize was awarded along with this honor.

- Gold medal, Jules Arthur, Washington, D.C., “Ali & Young Cassius Clay;”
- Silver medal, Opie Otterstad, Austin, Texas, “The Cage: The Other Side,” (pick up handball); and
- Bronze medal, William Williams, Battle Creek, Michigan, “Honus,” (Honus Wagner’s baseball gear).
Sculpture
- Gold medal, Gail Folwell, Boulder, Colorado, “Pas de Deux,” (hockey);
- Silver medal, Edward Eyth, Pacific Grove, California, “Balance,” (gymnastics); and
- Bronze medal, Richard Stravitz, Virginia Beach, Virginia, “Dash to the Finish,” (Olympic runners).

- Gold medal, Chris Bucher, Indianapolis, Indiana, “Tamika Catching” (women’s basketball);
- Silver medal, Jason Fogue, Des Moines, Iowa, “Caleb, 11, 70 lbs.” (boxing); and
- Bronze medal, Clyde Hapner, Liberty, Missouri, “No Regrets” (boxing).
Additional Awards
- “The Founders’ Award” – a new award for this year’s competition - went to Susan Durkee, Redding, Connecticut, for “Jim Thorpe: The Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century.” The Award was $500.
- The Rhoda Sherbell Sculpture Award was awarded to Edward Eyth, from Pacific Grove, California, for his sculpture “Balance.” The Rhoda Sherbell Sculpture Award was for $350.
