Elizabeth C. Varner
317.274.3627       ecvarner@iupui.edu

Ms.Varner  is Executive Director of the National Art Museum of Sport.

Varner has a bachelors degree in Art History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters from the Smithsonian-Corcoran College of Art+Design, study at Sotheby's in London, and a law degree from Tulane University Law School.  Varner’s education is bolstered with experience as director of a North Carolina museum, editor-in-chief of the Tulane Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property, and internships at the Smithsonian, the National Museum of Nepal and the U.S. Treasury Department. Varner’s desire to obtain a law degree was prompted by awareness of the complex legal questions arising in museum work, and has provided her with a unique understanding of museum's responsibilities for intellectual property, marketing, insurance, sales, and loans, and the ability to alert the Board of Trustees of situations needing legal counsel. Her expertise in these areas is evidenced by her multiple publications on  intellectual property law and other issues impacting museums and cultural property.

Ann M. Rein
317.274.0364    arein@iupui.edu

Mrs. Rein served as Executive Director of the Museum for 17 years.  Prior to her time at NAMOS, Rein was a 35-year veteran of the public relations field, and her involvement with museums goes back to her years on the staff of The Indianapolis News where she covered the museum beat. In addition to a degree in journalism from Butler University, she also studied art in St. Louis. Her special interest in sport art is in the stories it tells -- "Every picture, every piece of sculpture in the National Art Museum of Sport has a story behind it.”

Upon retirement, Rein was invited to continue her work with NAMOS on the  Board of Trustees.
